Despite persisting uncertainty, the economy took a backseat in the last few weeks or so owing to worry surrounding the national elections, since it took place on Sunday largely peacefully, it did not inflict any major harm on the already bruised economy.

This year, about half of the global population will exercise their voting rights, with approximately 30 countries holding presidential elections.
